How to Create a Self-Care Routine While in Lockdown

To all our beautiful clients – we miss you!

How are you all doing?! Such wild times! We know this storm will pass; we are all in this together.

During this unprecedented time, it can be difficult to stay calm and feel grounded. The new lockdown has definitely caused us to re-order our priorities and to focus on the things that matter most. It is essential to take care of your mental health to replenish your mind, embody the essence of life. Remember, you can’t serve from an empty vessel. Many of us need a routine to keep afloat at home. Either you are running a business, have to work from home or are surrounded by lively kids, you might be feeling overwhelmed.

However, lockdown can be a bright, beautiful time! This is a chance to reset and rejuvenate.

Here are 10 tips to reset and manage any anxiety you might be experiencing:

  1. Wake up with mindfulness
Starting the day with mindfulness and gratitude is a wonderful way to calm your mental and emotional state. The practise of meditation can be used to help your body and mind unwind.

  2. Hydrate
Would you like to improve your skin, digestion and your mood? Water is the best and most simple answer! Get yourself a water bottle and set your goals for how much you want to drink each day. Dehydration can cause a dip in energy levels and impact how your body absorbs food, both of which can mean you end up feeling low.

  3. Take care of your skin & body
Start using all those serums sitting on the counter! Create a gorgeous skin routine for yourself and you will thank you later. Wash your face, tone, hydrate, apply your sunscreen. Don’t forget your retinol at night! Indulge yourself with some face masks. Feel confident and refreshed with glowing skin. Need a skin care refill? Shop now*

  4. Eat nutritious food
Cook healthy food for yourself and your loved ones. Get through the day with nutritious meals which maintain your body energised and your mind positive.

  5. Make time for your loved ones
Lockdown doesn’t mean that we cannot stay in touch with our loved ones. While we can’t physically connect with anyone right now (except for our bubble), we can still talk to our favourite humans on the phone or send them a text. Make sure to check on your friends and family during this time.

  6. Get some sunshine
Being in direct contact with nature has an unwinding and grounding effect that nothing else comes close to achieving. Exposure to sunshine and light therapy increases the brain's release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting a person's mood and helping feel calm and less stressed.

  7. Do something that makes you happy
Take this time to practise your favourite hobby, play games, puzzles, bake, read an uplifting book or watch a good film. Activate your creative soul, use resources on the internet and get the arts and craft out.

  8. Exercise
If the weather is good, get outside, go for a walk in the fresh air. It is absolutely amazing for your mood and get those happy endorphins moving through your body. But don’t forget your Environ sunscreen!

  9. Indulge your senses
Diffuse your favorite calming essential oils. Place your diffuser in an area where you spend most of the day, and diffuse a few of your favorite scents.

  10. Have restful nights
Being at home means no commute which equals being able to sleep in! Make sure to switch off that alarm and embrace all the quality sleep you can. Having a restful sleep helps relieve any stress you might be experiencing, improves the mood and is even good for your immune system.

All of the above are great tips BUT there is beauty in flexibility! Your emotions are valid. Some days you might be feeling irritated, lonely, sad and that’s okay. Don’t pressure yourself to be overly productive every single day. If you feel like your mind and body are telling you to slow down, it is fine too. Allow yourself to be intuitive and let the energies flow within you.
